Vanna Bowles (f.1974) og Robert Johansson (f.1977) viser Mera kropp, en lek med menneskets engstelige forhold til kropp og skapelse. De vil sammen med ti skolebarn gjennomføre en malerisk, rytmisk sportsgymnastikk, der glede, kaos, disiplin og utilstrekkelighet avløser hverandre. Performancen vises for første gang.
Bowles og Johansson er begge bosatt i Oslo. De har samarbeidet i to år og involverer gjerne andre i verkene sine. Deres performancer tematiserer kroppen som arena for sosial praksis, ofte gjennom absurde blandinger og forskyvninger av sportslige og kulturelle fenomener og kontekster.
I Pugnae Spectaculum (2002) gikk de en reell boksekamp mot hverandre foran 150 tilskuere. Da blottstilles forskjellige aspekter og reaksjoner på vold, forførelse, henrykning og nakenhet. Under performancehelgen i Kunstbanken i fjor viste de, i samarbeid med to vektløftere, TESTEMONY – en kropps bekännelser. Den dreide seg om kroppen som skall, overflate, myte og scene manifistert gjennom eksplosiv, primitiv og rå styrke. Deres siste verk var Kroppens tunna skal (2004), et fabelaktig treningsstudio der vektene hadde formen av forskjellige dyrehoder i ulike blanke metaller. Publikum kunne bevege seg mellom rollen som betrakter og/eller fysisk deltaker.
Mera kropp (More body), which is performed for the very first time in Kunstbanken, plays with the uneasy relationship we have with our bodies and creation. With ten school children, Vanna Bowles (b.1974) and Robert Johansson (b.1977) will bring about a rhythmic gymnastics performance where joy, chaos, dicipline and inadequasy constantly interchange.
Bowles and Johansson both live in Oslo, and have worked together for two yars. They like to involve other people in their works. Their performances explore the body as an arena for social practice, often with an absurd combination and alternation of sporting and cultural phenomena and contexts.
In Pugnae Spectaculum (2002), they boxed against each other in front of 150 spectators. Here, different aspects of and reactions to violence, seduction, ecstasy and nakedness were exposed. During last years´ performance weekend at Kunstbanken, together with two weightlifters they presented TESTEMONY – en kropps bekännelser (TESTEMONY – the confessions of a body).The performance, about the body as a shell, surface, language, myth and stage, manifest3ed itself through expålosive, primitive, raw strenght. Their most recent work was Kroppens tunna skal (The bodys´ thin shell, 2004); a fabulous fitness studio in wich the weights came in the shape of various animal heads made from different types of bright metals. the audience was invited to move between the role as spectator and/or physical participant.
